00 / THE METHOD

Build the world. Put something inside it. Pay attention to what the world does to it.

The work begins with a room, a frame, a remembered street or an insistent voice. What enters may be human, artificial, found or imagined. The question is what truth the encounter brings forth.

01 / CURRENT WORK

Short film · 17 min · 2026

NO SHOW

A man invites a helpful voice into his life. Eventually, there is no room left for anyone else.

What happens when help becomes habitation?

No Show looks away from the fantasy of an evil machine and towards voluntary adaptation: a useful, reassuring voice gradually accommodated within the psyche.

Written, produced, directed, filmed, edited and scored by Dean Repper. One actor, one filmmaker, one increasingly occupied mind.

02 / AN EXPANDING FILM-WORLD

AS GOOD
AS IT GETS

A feature screenplay about friendship, masculinity and unreliable memory in a working-class town where the dead refuse to remain entirely dead.

Feature screenplay · In development

Concept trailer

A boy on the edge. A town still whispering its secrets.

This Is the Town the Stars Forgot

A found-footage film set to an AI-assisted original song.

Same Roads. Same Streets

Found and AI-generated moving images: teenage repetition, confinement and the persistent fantasy of escape.

03 / OTHER WORLDS

Completed and developing

A

Blackleg Miner

Short fiction · Director

A father-and-son drama, rooted in a former mining community, where family tension opens into a ghostly time-slip. Directed by Dean in 2025.

B

Tug of War

Short fiction · 1st AD / Script supervisor

Two parallel lives, held together in split screen, reveal the reach of the war in Ukraine. Recently privately screened and now beginning its festival submissions.

C

Beer Advisor

Short folk-horror comedy · Producer

Dean stepped into producing so the film’s writer could move into directing—leading pre-production, assembling the cast and extras, and helping make the shoot possible.

D

The Chalk Door

Developed script · Thesis · Visual treatments

A proposed stage and filmed-theatre hybrid: two men, a silent boy and a chalk-drawn room. A project about false kindness, witnessing and the doors a community chooses not to see.

E

The Nameplate Painter

Documentary · In production

An anonymous man quietly restores the cast-iron street signs of a Midlands market town: an act of care performed without applause.

F

Three Peaks

Essay documentary · In the edit

Camcorder fragments, friendship and endurance reshaped into an essay film about what remains after an adventure becomes memory.

04 / FRAGMENTS

Not everything needs to become a finished film.

A changing notebook: moving images, things noticed, visual tests and ideas that may—or may not—find their way into a finished work.

01 / MOVING

First Day

September 2026 · 1 min 09 sec

Walking through town to the station on my first day at the University of Lincoln.

Newark · 2026

A hooded figure repainting a street sign in a park
Layers of red paint on ornate ironwork
A figure working beside a painted street nameplate
A freshly painted Slaughterhouse Lane sign

Work, surfaces, names and the odd frames that arrive before their meaning does.

03 / IN DEVELOPMENT

Improv Love

Open the unrealised pitch

05 / DEAN REPPER

A filmmaker who took the long way round.

Dean Repper is a filmmaker, writer and artist based near Nottingham, UK. After four decades working with stories, relationships and mental health, he came to filmmaking carrying rather more baggage than most film schools recommend.

His work moves between fiction, documentary, performance, music and visual art. It returns to people caught between worlds: past and present, care and control, reality and invention, the voice that belongs to us and the one we have allowed inside.
